iPods (and iPhones)... Yes, they are awesome! If you haven't used one before, you are truly missing out (go to an Apple store and play around). Yet, despite their commanding market share, the fact that they revolutionized music, and their never ending evolution into even greater awesomeness, there are still some non-believers out there (ehem... Izzo). Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and that's fine with me, but some just take it too far. Who am I talking about? Well... it seems that software giant, Microsoft (makers of the iPod rival, Zune), has it's own bone to pick with Apple's best selling music platform. Take a look at the Zune Commercial, then continue reading below...
NOTE: The facts below assume that a person is actually crazy enough to FILL UP a 120GB iPod with only music that he or she buys on iTunes.
Let's look at some facts that the commercial doesn't mention...
1. A subscription service allows you to play unlimited music as long as you pay monthly.
2. As part of Zune Pass, each month, you only get to keep 10 songs as your own.
3. Each song you buy on iTunes is yours for life.
4. You can fill up your iPod with music you already own. People rip their own CDs.
So... Let's do some math...
1. $30,000 to fill an iPod at $1 a song is 30,000 songs
2. Zune Pass at 10 songs a month would take you 3,000 months (250 years) to get 30,000 songs
3. At $15 a month, that's $45,000 to fill up the same amount of space
4. No one lives for 250 years
You can make your own conclusions...
But yes, in case you were wondering, the people at Microsoft DO think we're all a buncha idiots.
