Safe Surfing with OpenDNS

As the Internet becomes more and more robust, the never-ending flow of inappropriate and harmful material increases. This content can destroy people's computers and pollute their minds, just as easy as the effort it takes to access it. There isn't much out there in the area of security and parental control, yet having that kind of power is very important.

Do you want your kids looking at pornography? I think we can all agree that access to things like that have no place in the home. I'm not even talking about accessing it purposely. These things will find their way to users one way or another. There is just too much of it floating around.

What can we do to protect out minds and our computers? OpenDNS seems to be a good start. The program is free and it contains a wide range of very useful functions. For security, it has an advanced phishing filter, which protects users from accidentally giving sensitive data over to a fake site such as a PayPal look-alike site asking to correct your credit card information. This protects you from letting some creep use your account and charge millions of dollars to your credit card. For the pure of mind, OpenDNS has a great set of parental controls that allow you to filter by many specific categories. For a list of categories, visit this LINK.

For some, OpenDNS can be a little tedious and technical to set up. Thankfully there are video tutorials to help with this. If this kinda thing interests you and you have trouble setting it up, you can check out the links below, or, as always, you can leave a comment on this post or send me an email via the Contact Page on the website. I will try to help in any way I can.

Enjoy safe surfing...
